Super Bowl LII predictions: Will Eagles continue riding upset train?

Quarterback Nick Foles will lead the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots in Super LII on Feb. 4.

The stage is officially set for the NFL’s biggest game, Super Bowl LII. The New England Patriots will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005.

The Eagles demolished the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship, while the Patriots erased a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Eagles, who supported a 13-3 record during the regular season, the big game on Feb. 2 as 5.5 underdogs, according to vegasinsider.com

Here are our predictions for the highly anticipated Super Bowl matchup.

Ryan McFadden, Sports Editor: Patriots

Just like a lot of football fans in the world, I’m not a fan of the Patriots. I was rooting for the Jaguars to pull off an upset in the AFC Championship, but Tom Brady managed to get the best of Jalen Ramsey and the Jaguars’ elite defense.

The Patriots’ ability to battle through adversity and Brady’s decision making during crunch time is the reason I have the team winning it all. It’s hard to bet against Brady as he continues to defy his age and establish himself as one of the greatest football players of our time.

I know the Eagles’ offense looked unbeatable against the Vikings, who are known for possessing a strong defense. But, I can’t see the Eagles’ backup quarterback Nick Foles throwing for over 300 yards against the Patriots. His inconsistency is alarming to me.

The Patriots’ defense was a little shaky against the Jaguars, but I can’t see them melting down like the Vikings. I can see this game being a tight matchup and I trust Brady’s clutch gene and head coach Bill Belichick’s play calling to get the Patriots back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

Once again, the Patriots will show experience that outweighs the underdog mentality.

Will Schneiderhan, Staff Writer: Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles will get revenge on the Patriots from the 24-21 Super Bowl loss in 2005.

The Eagles will win the Super Bowl this year due to their incredible depth on both sides of the ball, so don’t let the inconsistency of Foles worry you.

The Eagles also have a loaded offensive line, specifically on the right side with center Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson. This helps their deep backfield of Jay Ajayi, LeGarrette Blount and Corey Clement torture defenses.

Philly’s air game isn’t too bad either, led by big-bodied receiver Alshon Jeffery and sure-handed tight end Zach Ertz.

This is why the Eagles will be too much for the Patriots defense to handle. The Patriots’ defensive line struggled to control the trenches in the AFC Championship game, so the more dominant Eagles O-line will be an even harder matchup.

Obviously, the Patriots are the Patriots, and Brady is Brady, but that barely got them past the Jaguars. The Eagles will look to blow out the Pats, as they did to a Vikings team with one of the top ranked defenses in the league.

So, get psyched Philly; you will be seeing your first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
