This summer season for movies: What to look out for

There is a variety of movies coming out this summer, including “Solo: A Star Wars Story” shown above.

The summer months are right around the corner, and the movie industry is releasing a wave of blockbusters to accompany them. Although it may appear to be a summer of sequels, Summer 2018 includes a bunch of stand-alone films. Here is a list of movies to check out during the summer recess:

“Breaking In”: As the tagline “Payback is a Mother” suggests, this movie is going to pack a punch. The thriller features a mom played by Gabrielle Union taking back her house and saving her kids after a home invasion. It looks like the invaders should have thought twice before messing around with this mom and her family! “Breaking In” is in theatres May 11.

“Deadpool 2”: Ryan Reynolds makes a comeback as the sarcastic, injury-prone and fourth-wall breaking protagonist in the exciting and enthralling sequel to the original. In this movie, audiences are introduced to Cable, played by Josh Brolin, as well as other interesting characters. “Deadpool 2” will be released May 18.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story”: Returning to a galaxy far, far away—again—audiences meet up with a young Han Solo and follow the adventures that lead him to becoming the Solo we see in the original trilogy. This new “Star Wars” adventure hits theatres on May 25.

“Ocean’s 8”: Fans of empowering female casts—or of the action, comedy and crime genres—will love this movie! This all-female film is a spin-off of Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s” trilogy. The movie follows Debbie Ocean, played by Sandra Bullock, as she is released from prison and gathers an elite team to pull off her greatest heist yet. In addition to Bullock, the cast includes Rihanna, Anne Hathaway and Cate Blanchett. “Ocean’s 8” hits theatres June 8.

“Incredibles 2”: The sequel people have been waiting years for is almost here! The Parr family, aka the Incredibles, is back and ready to bring superheroes into the spotlight. The sequel has a lot in store, including Jack-Jack realizing his powers, Elastigirl taking action and Mr. Incredible dealing with common core math. The Parrs hit theatres on June 15.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp”: Marvel fans that just finished watching Infinity War can get their Marvel fix with yet another “MARVELous” movie! In the sequel to 2015’s “Ant-Man,” Scott Lang balances his new life as a superhero and his life as a father. He also finds himself teaming up with The Wasp to save the world. The movie will be released July 6.

“Eighth Grade”: Everyone has experienced an awkward middle school stage and continue to see younger siblings, cousins or family friends experience it. This coming-of-age tale is a movie that anyone can relate to no matter who they are. “Eighth Grade” will be released July 13.
