Fall season flourishing with new, returning video games

Chris Torres Staff Writer

The past year has been slow for gaming. However, this fall has a lot of promise for video game fans who have waited for exciting new titles, as both new blockbuster games as well as continuations of popular series are being released. Here are a few games you should be on the lookout for this fall.

“Marvel’s Spider Man” – In “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” gamers play as Spider-Man as he takes on some of his most notorious villains, including Kingpin, Mister Negative and Vulture. The game lets players explore New York City as they swing from the highest buildings and fly over the city. There are also many ways that Spider-Man can combat criminals, including a stealth option and a full-on web-slinging battle. This title is one of the most anticipated games of the fall and will be worth checking out. The game will be available on Sept. 7 for the PlayStation 4.

“Soulcalibur VI”- The next installment of the popular fighting series returns with familiar characters such as Siegfried, Astaroth and Yoshimitsu. A guest character from “The Witcher” games, Geralt of Rivia, will also be included. The gameplay will have the 3D fighting style the series is known for. The graphics are very similar to “Tekken 7” and is published by the same company, Bandai Namco. The game looks promising for the fighting game community. The game will be available Oct. 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

“Battlefield V”- First-person shooter fans looking for their fix of multiplayer mayhem should look out for “Battlefield V.” The new installment in the series takes players back to World War II. It will bring players to famous battles with new game modes that will provide hours of play. One new game mode is battle royale. Battle royale will go perfectly with the “Battlefield” series and it will be worth it to see how publisher DICE puts its own spin on it. Controversy surrounding the game earlier this year as well as competition coming from “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” leave this game with tough odds to beat, but I feel it will be worth the purchase. The game will be released Nov. 20 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

“Red Dead Redemption 2” – Rockstar Games’ most popular franchise returns with a Wild West experience that acts as a prequel to “Red Dead Redemption.” In this game, players watch over and take care of their gang as well as NPCs (non-playable characters) in the game that will change their interactions with you depending on your actions. For example, if players save a man from a cliff, the side mission story differs from the one that would have resulted had the players let him die. The game will also have multiplayer and battle royale mode. This game looks amazing and I expect nothing but quality from Rockstar, so keep an eye out for this one. The game will be released on Oct. 26 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

These are only a few of the games coming out this fall. They show the most promise and will give you the most bang for your buck, so make sure to check them out!
