Top 10 uniforms in college football

College football offers the best uniforms in sports, as all programs try to top one another by using creative color schemes and designs. Here is a look at the top 10 college football jerseys in the nation.

1. Miami

Miami’s program seems to be coming back. The football team had a solid season last year, and it  will look to build off that success in this season.

The Hurricanes’ uniforms in the season opener against LSU takes the top spot on this list. Not only did they look good, they were also made out of marine plastic waste.

The jerseys featured the traditional Miami orange with green on the shoulders. The numbers were all white and outlined with orange. These jerseys really make you think “Miami.”

2. Oregon

If you don’t follow college football, then you may not understand the significance of Oregon football uniforms.

Oregon has made uniform unveiling a competition. The program has come out with countless uniforms, which is easy to do when Nike headquarters is within shouting distance of the school.

However, I want to highlight the Kelly-green  jerseys. This uniform is green from top to bottom but has many yellow accents.

The numbers are the most eye-catching part of these jerseys. A simple, yet loud jersey by Oregon comes in at number two.

3. Syracuse

Syracuse comes in at number three with the program’s gray uniforms. Of course, you usually think of orange and white when it comes to the Big Orange, but that’s not the case this time.

The gray base works well, and the jerseys still feature a hint of Syracuse orange. The numbers, as well as other minor parts of the jersey,  are outlined in orange.

It seems as though today’s college football uniforms are headlined by non-traditional alternates, yet, Syracuse found a way to incorporate both.

4. Minnesota

Minnesota unveiled new uniforms for the 2018 season. These “H.Y.P.R.R ELITE” uniforms are a great blend of the past and present.

The new uniforms were created in three colors—white, maroon and a grayish color. All three are nice, but the maroon uniforms lead the pack.

The jersey top uses the maroon as its base, but features a white color. For some reason this makes the uniform pop even more.

The helmet is fantastic too. The gold base with the maroon facemask round out the uniform very well.

5. UCLA

UCLA delivers with a subtle uniform that is  incredibly polished.

The gold and true-blue combination make for some of the nicest looking jerseys found in any sport. While the jerseys with the white base are nice, the true-blue base with the white and gold shoulder streaks are the best.

This uniform seems to reflect California—n. Nothing too crazy, but gets the job done and then some. What’s more impressive is the fact that UCLA is one of the most storied programs in sports, yet they have kept the same jersey concept for years.

PAC-12 football brings the heat when it comes to jerseys. UCLA won’t be the last school from that conference on this list.

6. Air Force

Air Force decided to go all black with their “Air Force Power Legacy Series,” and as a result, they really hit the nail on the head—especially with the gray numbers and lettering on top of a black base.

This look is slightly reminiscent to the Oakland Raiders black jerseys, but the use of the Air Force logo on the shoulders and slick looking helmet make their version much better.

The Helmet uses two separate Air Force decals. The use of an all-black helmet and black face mask give a very serious , yet slick look.

While the Air Force won’t be knocking on the door of the college football playoff, their uniforms are one of the top in the nation.

7. USC

USC offers a jersey that’s traditional, subtle and easy one the eyes. The University of Southern California’s jerseys haven’t changed in years, but they still get the job done.

The gold and cardinal-red blend works very well. While the football uniforms aren’t anything too special, sometimes that’s what works best.

If you are a hardcore fan, this is a sight for sore eyes. But, if you’re not a college football fan yet, then throw some PAC-12 football on the TV and get drawn in by USC.

USC’s cardinal- red base with gold streaks on the shoulders is what everyone thinks about when they think of the PAC-12, . bBut, don’t over look the white-based jersey with cardinal streaks either.

8. Notre Dame

Notre Dame comes in a bit low here specifically because I am only referencing one jersey.

While, the traditional Notre Dame uniforms are a timeless classic, the team’s jerseys for the Shamrock Series on Nov. 17 are really unique. The Fighting Irish will rock their usual colors, but they will have New York Yankee pinstripes on their shoulders and pants.

Also, one of the most interesting  parts of this jersey gets lost in the shuffle—if you look at the Notre Dame writing above the numbers on the front of the jersey, you will see the script is the classic font used for the Yankees.

Yes, they absolutely nailed these uniforms. I mean, how can you go wrong if you are marketing to one of the largest fan bases in the world? These jerseys are a job well done by Notre Dame.

9. Maryland

Pride runs through the veins of college football, so it is fitting that the University of Maryland would have the state flag incorporated into their uniform design.

The Maryland state flag is aesthetically pleasing on its own, as the blend of red, black, white and yellow makes for a very eye-popping design.

The same effect is seen in the team’s uniforms. While they rock a traditional white, red or sometimes black base, they have the flag on the shoulders of each uniform.

10. East Carolina

ECU comes in at number 10 due to the vibrancies of colors used in the team’s uniforms. These white and purple jerseys are attention-grabbing and clean.

First, going all white is always a bold move. Why? This runs a high risk of looking too bland, or the players looking like they paint houses for a living.

That said, ECU nailed it. The use of the team’s logo on the shoulders compliment the jersey well.

The purple ECU jersey is even better—it is the same concept as the white jersey, just all purple. These jerseys go with purple pants, or yellow.

Through both their purple and white jerseys, ECU proved that bold colors make loud statements.
