After much anticipation, the new president of Iona College was announced in a secret meeting last week, in which a final contract was negotiated.

Luckily, Ionian spies were able to infiltrate the meeting and finally reveal the truth – fire and blood will be coming to Iona College. That’s right! Our new president is none other than the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea herself, the Mother of Dragons, the Breaker of Chains, Queen of the Andals and the First Men and First of Her Name, Daenerys Targaryen!

If her many names sound familiar, they should. Targaryen has an extensive resume, including taking over the free cities of Meereen, Yunkai and Astapor; murdering her own brother; engaging in a war no one is positive she can win; and owning dragons. A native of Westeros, Targaryen was raised in Essos until she made her journey back to Westeros in order to reclaim her throne. It is assumed that her domination plans are on hold indefinitely after accepting the new position.

“This presidency just seemed like the most logical next step for me,” Targaryen said. “I’m already a queen. I don’t know, it’s something fun and new! I think I could do a lot of good here!”

The game of thrones is tricky business, with all the betrayal and power grabs going on. Targaryen’s experience in this field has the potential to strengthen her leadership skills and her ability to lead Iona into the future.

Some students are concerned, however, that Targaryen may make too many changes.

“I don’t know, wasn’t she, like, exiled from her own country?” sophomore John Starke said. “And she murdered her brother…I just don’t see how she’s qualified. Has she ever even worked at a school before?”

Targaryen has no prior experience working at a college, nor has there been any confirmation that she has received any form of traditional schooling herself. This hasn’t stopped Targaryen from announcing her plans for the future. She has already released a statement on the creation of a new academic department geared toward battle strategy and political relations. Students are expected to be able to join the department as soon as 2023.

Targaryen is also expected to build a wall around the campus in order to better defend the school from the Lannister forces from the south and the threat of the White Walkers from the north. Again, having never heard of these opposing forces, or of any conflict of this nature in the United States, students and administrators are understandably confused.

“I’m honored that Iona College has chosen me as their queen,” Targaryen said. “As promised, I will grant you freedom in power in the many wars to come.”

While The Ionian staff isn’t sure what “war” she is referring to, we’re excited to see where the next chapter in the Iona College presidency goes! Targaryen is an unlikely and surprising choice but who knows, she might just surprise us! Valar Morghulis!
