A breath of fresh air…
October 26, 2010
We can all remember the trepidation that we felt when we came into college…I know I can. And there are very few people that can work to ease that trepidation. The fear only mounts when you realize, for some of you, that your Resident Assistant is only working in their first year on the staff. Thoughts begin to race through your mind…will they be able to actually help you when the time is right?
Although she is only in her second year here at the college, RA Zanfardino has certainly made her mark. We at The Ionian took a minute to catch up with Zanfardino, and asked her about her position here at Iona.
Where are you located on Iona’s Campus?
I am located on the second floor of Rice Hall!
What interested you in becoming an RA?
One of my main reasons for becoming an RA was all of the opportunities that come along with the position. I love that I am both a resource and a friend. I also love that I have been able to use my positive experiences as a residential student to influence my residents!
What is your favorite part of the job?
There are too many! I love the leadership experience that I am gaining, interacting with my residents, decorating my floor, planning programs and constantly making connections with students living in the residence halls. Being an RA is very rewarding. I love my job!
What are some of your favorite hobbies/free-time activities?
In my very rare free time I like to hang out with my friends and get my mind off work. My hobbies are singing, acting and reading. I often find myself spending way too much time watching NCIS, Law and Order SVU, and the office!
Is there anything you’d like to say to the Iona residential community?
I’m pretty positive that these next four years will go by too quickly! Utilize all of the resources available to you. Challenge yourself to be academically successful but also to do something that you are proud of. Take full advantage of the amazing opportunities that Iona has to offer. Our campus is rich in its tradition; leave some of yourself in it.
