Living the life in Loftus

For residential students living on Iona’s campus, Resident Assistants are a crucial component that allow life on campus to flow smoothly. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment for those who live near them, and are a good resource for students seeking answers to Iona FAQ’s. With that said, meet Michael Petre.

Where are you located on Iona’s campus?

I live in Loftus 091, the best floor in Loftus!  I love living in the courtyard. It’s like nowhere else at Iona.

What interested you in becoming a Resident Assistant?

I had a great RA for my first two years of college.  Watching him perform his job and seeing his experience with the RA job was a huge part of it for me.  He seemed to really enjoy it and I liked everything that the job entailed when I went to the information session.  My friends always tell me that they ask me if they need to know anything about Iona, so I figured I could be that helpful and knowledgeable person for my residents as well.

What would you say is the favorite part of your job?

Being an RA has changed my life at Iona.  While the programs and the formal meetings with my residents are always fun and purposeful, I would have to say my favorite part of being an RA is just being friends with my residents. I love getting to know them on a personal level and helping them out with any problems they have through the transition from high school to college. Another part of being an RA that I have to mention is getting to know the RA staff.  They are some truly amazing people on Iona’s campus, that I may not have known otherwise.

What are some of your favorite hobbies, or free time activities?

I like watching and critiquing movies, particularly movies of books I have read.  Reading is also one of my favorite pasttimes, but I usually only read for pleasure in the summer.  My favorite thing to do is playing any kind of sports, particularly competitive sports and I love working out and running.

Is there anything you’d like to say to the Iona community?
