Above and beyond expectations…

For residential students living on Iona’s campus, Resident Assistants are a crucial component that allow life on campus to flow smoothly. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment for those who live near them, and are a good resource for students seeking answers to Iona FAQ’s. Thus, getting to know your RA is extremely important. In the spirit of learning more about your local RAs, we will be conducting bi-weekly interviews of various RAs. Meet: Angie Mifsud.

Where are you located on Iona’s campus?

I am in Rice Hall, third floor so up a lot of stairs.

What interested you in becoming a Resident Assistant?

I was initially interested in the RA position because I have dealt with a lot of different aspects of college life (D1 athlete, honors, part-time job, loans, clubs, etc.) and I felt that as a senior I could really help others out with their decisions and choices.  I also have always taken a leadership role, but I am also super aware that being a great leader also means being able to follow and listen to others, and that is a large part of being an RA as well: listening to your other RAs and also your residents.

What would you say is the favorite part of your job?

The favorite part of the job for me would be the relationships you create, whether that is between you other RAs who you might have never known beforehand, with other leaders on campus that you learn to collaborate with, and of course with your residents.

What are some of your favorite hobbies, or free time activities?

My favorite hobbies (I won’t say free time because I have very little of it) are traveling, playing sports, eating, relaxing, looking for   deals over the Internet.

Is there anything you’d like to say to the Iona community at large?

Always learn about other people’s cultures and traditions to truly broaden your own understanding, as well as truly to get to know each other.  “No hay mal que por bien no venga”…  “every cloud has a silver lining”
