Celeb Halloween

This year, Halloween was full of tricks, treats, and as always, some interesting celebrity costumes. This time around, however, it wasn’t just the stars who were going all out. Thousands of trick or treaters, party-goers and even the stars themselves sported celebrity-themed Halloween costumes.

“Lady Gaga and Jersey Shore have been our top sellers,” said a Ricky’s N.Y. store employee as quoted in People Magazine early in the month of October. Lady Gaga and Snooki, star of the hit reality show, “Jersey Shore,” proved to be the top costumes for this year. Made available online were a handful of different Gaga costumes as well as a Snooki wig made to resemble the star’s notorious pouf.

Hopping on the Snooki bandwagon himself was celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton. Hilton dressed in drag as the “Jersey Shore” guidette (as she calls herself), pouf and all. Comedian and talk-show host, Ellen DeGeneres, also joined in on the fun by dressing as Snooki’s pouf – that’s right, just the pouf – while filming a Halloween-themed episode of her show.

“I was almost late for the show because I didn’t take in account how long it takes to gym, tan and laundry,” said DeGeneres, poking fun at the “Snooki lifestyle.”

On the other hand, Gaga and Snooki had their own costume ideas this year. Always outrageous and over the top, Gaga dressed as a blood spattered Cruella de Vil from the classic children’s movie, “101 Dalmatians.” Of course, she threw in her own twist. Equipped with a gun, a group of equally bloody Dalmatians and a lack of pants, the star certainly drew some attention to herself. Then again, when doesn’t she?

Nevertheless, Gaga wasn’t the only one in the spotlight. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, the so-called queen of reality television and the inspiration for one of the top Halloween costumes of the year, spent Halloween dressed as the princess of something else.

“The Pickle Princess has arrived,” tweeted the celebrity. Snooki proudly dressed as the “Pickle Princess,” recognizing and poking fun at her obsession with the snack. Donning a lime-green sequined dress, a matching cape and a diamond tiara, the young star carried around a royal scepter, topped with a giant imitation pickle.

Fellow “Jersey Shore” cast member Pauly Delvecchio also known as “DJ Pauly D,” partied hard dressed as 16-year-old pop sensation Justin Bieber. While actor and comedian David Spade dressed as “Glee” character Sue Sylvester, other stars stayed simple and stylish. Model, television star and socialite Kim Kardashian, dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, accompanied by her “Big Bad Wolf” stylist.

Celebrities this year were thrilled to be inspiration for costumes across the country. Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Snooki each took the time to tweet a few of their favorite fan costumes. “I am LOVING all the Snooki costumes on my facebook page,” tweeted the “Pickle Princess.”

Gaga, honored by all the fan creativity, personally compiled her favorites into a YouTube montage. The 10 minute video showcases the star’s favorite fan costumes. Alessia Donato, a sophomore here at Iona College, donned a homemade Gaga costume this Halloween and was ecstatic to find out that not only did her idol see her costume, but it was picked for the video.

“For Halloween I dressed up as Lady Gaga; nothing too outrageous but it was still obvious who I was trying to be. I submitted my picture to a Lady Gaga fansite and was so excited to find out that my picture was posted and that she would possibly see it,” explained Donato. “Later that day, Lady Gaga tweeted a video she made of all of her ‘little monsters’ that had dressed as her for Halloween and she added my picture into the slideshow! It made me love her so much more knowing that she appreciates what her fans do and definitely does her best to let us know!”

This Halloween was certainly full of surprises. From outrageous celebrity costumes to fun, original and creative fan-made costumes, there was so much to see. The spirit of Halloween truly showed.
