A “Rae” of sunshine in Conese Hall
February 8, 2011
For residential students living on Iona’s campus, Resident Assistants are a crucial component that allow life on campus to flow smoothly. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and fun environment for those who live near them, and are a good resource for students seeking answers to Iona FAQ’s. With that said, meet Rae Scalisi.
Where are you located on Iona’s campus?
I am located on the fifth floor of Conese Hall.
What interested you in becoming a Resident Assistant?
I like to think that I transitioned well into college my freshman year. Don’t get me wrong: I missed home, often over slept and went a couple days without socks from the lack of doing laundry. However, I did realize that not everybody dealt with the changes of being away from home as well as I may have. I wanted to help residents by creating a warm and inviting floor much like the ones I encountered my first year at Iona.
What would you say is the favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is definitely seeing my residents on campus and the bond I have with them. I also really like making bulletin boards and door decs. I enjoy using my creative side!
What are some of your favorite hobbies or free time activities?
In my free time I really enjoy writing, mostly poetry. I also enjoy going to the gym and hanging out with friends. Since my favorite season is summer, I really like the beach and being out on the boat with my family.
Is there anything you’d like to say to the Iona community?
I just want to say that I am proud to be a part of such a diverse and welcoming community! Go Gaels!
