Besides the swiftly sounding name, the Ave provides students and the new Rochelle community with a variety of sandwich options quickly. “All of the food is fresh” Freddy said, and I believe him. Fresh fruit , chicken and pastas are displayed under glass which is seen upon entrance. Workers Fred and Danny were helpful and kind enough to talk to my friend and I as we went in one evening to try Quesadillas and a sandwich.
What I like about the Ave is the camaraderie from the workers and the people on line. Injecting humor they retort interesting insights.
Maybe it’s the experienced workers- the sandwiches are created effectively and with an array of ingredients. Their food is surprisingly good even after eating there many times a week. I suggest ordering a sandwich that has Cajun spice or sun dried tomatoes. Philly Cheese steak is not as cumbersome to eat as it sounds and includes American cheese onions and ketchup.
Iced coffee is a much needed event. The Ave provides Green Mountain Coffee and sometimes Seattle Best Blend. For others there are fruit and sports drinks.
What gets me is the community activism. The Ave has donated food for some of Iona’s events and for food drives to 9/11 families.
The design is perfected with silver and brown colors abound. It is a relatively small place and extremely functional but very enjoyable. The design is modern lending itself to less mental distraction. There are just enough seats and stools to enjoy your food. The Ave is also partners with the Eatery on North Avenue as well and both enjoy your service. If you are a student it might make sense to purchase a gift card with a meal card from the Eatery to use at the Ave.
