Lady Gaga is ‘Born’ again

Lady Gaga has done it again. Her latest single, “Born This Way” is breaking records, being played on radio stations around the world, and becoming an anthem to many.

Lady Gaga released her single to the world on Feb. 11. The song is full of inspirational lyrics that send positive messages to all different listeners. With “Born This Way,” Lady Gaga is trying to tell fans to simply be proud of who they are and love themselves.

Within five days, “Born This Way” became the number one song in 23 different countries and sold over one millions copies, making it the fastest selling song ever on iTunes. It is also the 1000th number one song on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Despite its popularity, Lady Gaga’s new single has received a lot of criticism. Many have been noticing that “Born This Way” sounds very similar to songs by Madonna and some are thinking that Lady Gaga is trying to be like her famous outrageous predecessor. However, Madonna herself reached out to Lady Gaga and showed her love and support for the song.

Lady Gaga made her New York stop of her Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 21 and 22nd. She had the Garden packed as both shows were sold out. The audience screamed and sang along as Lady Gaga belted out lesser known songs, old hits, and her new single.

Gaga wore many different and shocking costumes throughout the show including an exaggerated nun’s habit that topped an almost completely see-through latex outfit and an outfit that featured tights and a leather bra while the rest of her body was covered in blood. Lady Gaga has been known for making appearances in odd outfits, like a dress that was completely made out of meat, which she wore to last year’s MTV’s Video Music Awards.

Lady Gaga’s concert was much more than singing and dancing. She also played many instruments including a keyboard that she wore around her neck and an organ. During “LoveGame,” Gaga danced in an empty subway car. In between certain songs, there were video clips like that of a woman throwing up blue vomit on Lady Gaga. Towards the end of the show, a giant monster with glowing eyes and sharp teeth took over the stage. Lady Gaga put on a show to impress.

As a native from Manhattan, Lady Gaga’s New York stop was very personal. She mentioned times when she herself sat in the stands of Madison Square Garden, as she grew up 20 blocks away. She also repeatedly thanked her fans, or her “Little Monsters,” as she calls them for helping her come such a long way.

During the concert, she mentioned a time when her professors at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts tried to discourage her. She recalled her professors saying “You’ll never be the heroine, the blonde, the star. Your hair’s too dark. You look too ethnic.” She fought these claims, replying “What about Liza?” Liza Minelli, an idol of Lady Gaga’s, happened to be sitting in the audience. Lady Gaga has attained Liza Minelli fame and perhaps beyond.

To Lady Gaga, the issue of bullying remains close to her heart. During her concert she mentioned times when she was bullied herself. She spoke of a time when people used to pick on her. To those who are bullied, “Born This Way” sends out a message to anyone and everyone to be proud of who they are.

Lady Gaga is releasing two music videos for “Born This Way.” One is for the original song and one is for a stripped down version of the song. Gaga will be donating a portion of the proceeds made from the stripped down version of the song to an anti-bullying charity.

Lady Gaga continues to keep people talking with her outrageous lifestyle. During the Grammy’s, Lady Gaga made her appearance to the red carpet by being carried by four men, while encased in a giant egg. Lady Gaga is also hoping to release a perfume, which she says will contain a mixed scent of blood and semen.

Despite how eccentric she may be, Lady Gaga is doing something right as her fame continues and popularity grows.  She promises big things to come as she says ‘”Born This Way is just the beginning of this album. It’s certainly not the biggest hit on the album.” Her new album, also titled “Born This Way” will be released in May.
