Insight into ICANN
March 8, 2011
ICANN, the organization that is responsible for generating the year book, is an integral part of maintaining the memories of college life. In this week’s “Getting to Know” section, we had the opportunity to sit down with senior Corey Fisher, a member of ICANN, who has been involved with the organization for several years.
How long have you been involved with ICANN?
I have been a part of ICANN since freshmen year. I was involved in the yearbook in high school, so it was always an interest of mine in coming to college.
What is your specific involvement? What is it exactly that you and ICANN do?
My involvement in the organization has evolved throughout my four years here. This year, I am Editor-in-Chief. I am in charge of the staff of editors and the staff that all contribute to the publication. I also implement the creative design within the book and make sure that there is a cohesive theme. I am also the direct connection to our publisher, the Office of Student Development, and our adviser, Br. Smith.
What is the organizations mission on campus?
The yearbook is one of the oldest organizations on campus. The purpose of it is simple, but it lasts forever. We are served the task to document the year and capture the essence of the graduating class, as well as the college’s state as a whole. We work tirelessly to represent the majority of the student body on one page or another of our year-long publication. Our goal is to complete the book! Although it seems obvious and simple, it is quite a task. Currently, our book contains 184 pages which are all student produced. Our major goal is to complete and create a book that is worthy to be on people’s shelves. I am proud to say that our book is complete, and that it looks wonderful!
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I am proud to have served the campus in such a monumental way. While my position seems under the radar to many, I know I have a lasting impact in the way people remember Iona. The yearbook is something very permanent and means something to people now and forever. I am glad to have had the chance to provide memories in a manner that alumni will be proud to show their children and grandchildren to come.
