Provost suspended, investigation pending
August 30, 2011
Newly appointed President Joseph E. Nyre has not had an easy first couple of months on the job, and recent developments only further complicate matters.
In a statement posted on the official Iona Web site, the College explains that Warren Rosenberg has been suspended from his post as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The reason for his suspension is due to incorrect or falsified data on student performance that was sent to third party agencies.
As Provost, Rosenberg’s duty was to ensure that all information reported to these agencies is an accurate representation of the quality of Iona students. It is unclear what specific data was inaccurate and whether this will affect any of Iona’s many accreditations.
Alongside suspending Rosenberg, the College is also conducting an external investigation and audit to determine the reason for and breadth of the inaccuracies. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be made public to the Iona community – most importantly, faculty, staff and students.
The College’s decision to inform the Iona community that such an incident has taken place and an investigation is occurring is an approach that is indicative of Nyre’s leadership.
Since assuming his role as President, Nyre has taken steps to ensure open communication between the College administration, the community and the greater New Rochelle area. This increased communication has been met with much pleasure by staff, students, faculty and the neighborhood associations.
At the current time, it remains unclear as to what, if any, role Rosenberg will have in the future at the College.
His current profile on the Iona Web site indicates that he is a Professor of Biology, but it no longer indicates his role as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
