Don’t get hooked on hook-ups

A quick search of the words “hook-up culture” on the Internet will yield a surprisingly large number of results. At the heart of this apparently expanding culture is college students, making this topic one that directly affects the Iona community. Several articles can be found that talk about our generation as part of a culture that focuses on one-time physical encounters and a lack of emotional connection to each other. Older generations are making generalizations about the way our age group interacts with each other. We should all be aware of what recent studies are saying about college students and we should know how our age group is being portrayed to the rest of the world.

According to different psychological and sociological studies, there are several reasons for the emergence of the “hook-up culture.”
