‘Students shaken up by Eastchester robbery’: Update

Alexandra VinciStaff Writer

The last issue of The Ionian contained a story pertaining to the Eastchester robbery. The story indicated that the robbery at 30 Eastchester was reported to be “an isolated incident with no similar incidents reported in the area surrounding the College.”

However, new information came out shortly after the issue went to press that contradicted that statement. It appears that there have been at least three other robberies that the police believe to be connected and committed by the same person.

The first robbery was on First St. in Pelham on Jan. 12, followed by one on Glenn Road in Mamaroneck on Jan. 17. The third was the one that the Iona community is very familiar with was on White Oak St. at 30 Eastchester on Jan. 29. The most recent occurrence was on Jan. 31 on Monterey Avenue in Pelham.

The perpetrator was given the same description in each instance to be 5 foot 10 to 6-feet, black male, weighing 175 to 200 pounds. Each of the victims was held at gunpoint by a black semi-automatic handgun while the robber was dressed in dark clothing and a black ski mask.

There has been an arrest made of 23 year-old Kyle Taylor. Taylor has a history of violent robberies and before he was caught he was wanted for first-degree robbery out of Yonkers. Whether or not he is responsible for the robberies listed above is still unclear and the police are still investigating the matter.

Taylor is scheduled for court on Feb. 23, while the police are still at work to solve each case.
