Keith Johnson reaches out since his departure as RHD
February 8, 2012
With the recent departure of Keith Johnson as RHD came a lot of confusion. The last issue of The Ionian stated that Keith Johnson had not responded to attempts to clarify his departure. However, since deadline, Johnson has reached out.
He said, “My recent departure comes after having contributed five unique years at the institution. This was not an easy move, but it was one that was motivated by many factors that would allow me to look at greater opportunities.”
Johnson is content with his experience at Iona, coming here after just recently graduating and looking to make a difference. There is no doubt that he did that, and he realizes it. Johnson said, “I left the institution knowing that I made an impact on the lives of students, colleagues and the greater New Rochelle community. I also know that when one door closes, another one opens.”
The door of opportunity is definitely opening for Johnson. When asked what is next on the horizon for Johnson, he said, “My future looks bright, considering what I’ve done thus far. I just served as chair of a professional conference for a national organization. I’ve been invited to serve as a keynote speaker at a prestigious institution. Finally, I secured a number of prospects at institutions along the east coast within the next few weeks.”
Johnson concluded his response with positive sentiments about Iona, specifically the students he worked with directly.
“I’ve learned a lot from Iona College, and Iona College has learned a lot from me. I’m sure that, because of the students I’ve worked with, this relationship will always remain. I’d like to acknowledge Delta Upsilon, the Inter-Residence Council, and the Loftus Hall RA staff,” he said
Erika Enlund, a member of the Loftus Hall RA staff, said she will always remember Johnson as the RHD, and continues to stay in contact with him.”Keith Johnson will always hold a special place in our hearts as a great mentor, confidante and friend,” she said.
However, with the departure of Johnson came the first week of leadership by Sharlene Kasinski. When interviewed, Assistant Vice Provost for Residential Life Derek Zuckerman cited her enthusiasm as a main factor of her hire, and this is something the RAs in Loftus are already feeling. Enlund said, “I personally am excited for her leadership and her energy; we’re already feeding off of her energy. In just one week she’s blended right into our family, and we look forward to working with her.”
Kasinski began her term at Iona with a two hour meeting with the Loftus RA staff on Jan. 30.
