Coffee House showcases Iona’s hot talent

 It was that time of the semester again; as work begin to blossom for the spring semester, a certain solace is offered to the students, faculty, and alumni of Iona College to relax the anxiety crazed academic minds. The aforementioned solace is, in this case, the bi-annual Coffee House held in the Lapenta Student Center’s Endzone. Once again, Gael musicians have found their way to the stage, much like the vinyl records of the previous Coffee House events have found their ways to the walls (again).

The Coffee House, an event conducted by Iona Campus Ministries, is a show case of the most musically inclined students Iona has to offer. Hosted by Joseph Chabot and Flo Maloney (for her last Coffeehouse hosting as an Iona student), the Coffee House provided both musical and comedic entertainment. The showcase itself is not limited to musical acts; students have also been known to dance or to even read poetry they have written, as well. The beauty of this event is that it is truly what the students make of it, and frankly, the students never disappoint. A great performer is nothing without an equally fantastic audience, and truly, the crowd of the Spring Semester Coffee House did not disappoint. The room, again, was completely packed with students, alumni, and faculty, including a visit from President Nyre.

There were a few performances that absolutely stood out amidst the others, including Coffee House veterans, such as Alex Cammett, Ranisha Singh, Tyler Conroy and Tom Ford, as well as new comers. The amount of creativity in this particular Coffeehouse was refreshing, allowing the crowd to listen to songs such as Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” performed by Sandy Hunter in a different, exotic way.
