Benefits Cosmetics “They’re Real!” push-up eyeliner sparks debate
September 18, 2014
Benefit Cosmetic’s new makeup line “They’re Real!” revealed a new push-up liner this summer that is not as impressive as it claims to be.
The line originally started with a mascara paired with a brush that is perfect for making eyes appear bigger. From there came makeup remover tailored to the line and an eyeliner.
The brand gets its name “They’re Real!” because the products make your lashes appear false without the actually using fake eyelashes. The line has since expanded into other eye makeup products.
The sample size of the mascara is only $10 and will last for about a month. If you love it as much as I do, you will probably go back for the regular sized bottle, which costs $23 and will last much longer. Despite the price, the quality speaks for itself.
An alternative to this is to buy a reasonably priced mascara from a drugstore brand like Maybelline or Revlon, and use the brush from the Benefit mascara.
The eyeliner is a gel eyeliner in a pen form. However, the tip of the liner features the unique, angled Accuflex tip to hug lashes more closely. The application requires some getting used to, but with practice, it becomes a breeze.
To use, the pen must be twisted at the bottom to get the gel formula to come out of the tip. Exercise caution when twisting the pen, because if too much product comes out, the line will become chunky and uneven.
Benefit’s “They’re Real” eyeliner does not budge with water. According to BenefitCosmetics.com consumer panel survey on 32 women after two weeks, “91% said it was long-wearing, [and] 84% said eyes looked visibly larger.”
Although the eyeliner does live up to its claims of lasting 24 hours, its longevity can also prove to be difficult when it comes time to remove your makeup.
There is a solution to this issue, and that is Benefit’s “They’re Real!” Remover, which removes waterproof eye makeup. The remover is also formulated to assist in fixing any eye makeup mistakes through the simple use of a cotton swab.
If you have the time and patience, or a steady hand, you will love the results from this new applicator.
I would recommend reserving this liner for special occasions only, as it may take too much time to apply on an average day. When I don’t have the time to use the “They’re Real!” eyeliner, I use L’Oreal Paris Super Liner in brown. The Benefit eyeliner only comes in black, which may be too harsh for some to use for everyday wear,
The Benefit “They’re Real!” push-up liner is revolutionary in that it is the first-ever lash-hugging gel liner in a pen. Being so new, the product does take some getting used to for those of us who are used to pencils or liquid liners.
If you are experienced with eyeliners, try the “They’re Real!” push-up eyeliner out. If not, try a drugstore eyeliner before experimenting with more expensive options.
