A welcome letter from the SGA president
September 2, 2015
Welcome back!
My name is Tommy Severin, and I’m excited to be serving as your Student Government Association president for the 2015-2016 academic year. On behalf of the SGA, I just wanted to welcome everyone to campus and say that we hope you had an amazing start to the semester.
For our returning students, we’re excited to have you back! Having spent all summer on campus, I can promise it’s not the same without all of you here.
To all of our new students, welcome to Iona College! You’ll quickly discover what a special community you’ve just become a part of.
Please know that if you have any questions or concerns now or throughout the year – you can always reach out to me or any members of the SGA! We’re here to help you and to advocate on your behalf in order to enhance the student experience.
SGA meetings will be held every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the McGrath Room, which is on the top floor of the Robert V. LaPenta Student Union. Our office is located on the ground floor of LaPenta. The doors are always open so please feel free to stop by.
I will be holding open office hours on Mondays from 3-4 p.m., Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
You can also reach out to SGA via email at [email protected], or you can contact me directly at [email protected]. You can also find the contact information for myself and the rest of the SGA executive board at www.iona.edu/sga.

I urge you to make the most of this year by working hard both inside and outside the classroom. Iona has so many wonderful opportunities to offer including undergraduate research opportunities, service work and over 80 clubs and organizations.
Keep an eye out for all of the amazing events and activities that will be happening on campus this year! As we celebrate our 75th year, I encourage all students to participate in the Day of Service we will be having on Sept. 19, which is the anniversary of when the College first opened its doors. More information is available online at ionaconnection.com.
Best of luck this year and remember… Every day is a great day to be a Gael.
