Justin Bieber is back with a ‘Purpose’
December 3, 2015
Justin Bieber is back with his fourth studio album “Purpose.” This album is Bieber’s apology to anyone who loves him and is the ultimate comeback album.
This album shows Bieber, now 21, as a more mature artist than he was his last pop album, which was released in 2012.
Like most pop albums, all the songs on the album are very catchy and have great beats; even the slow love songs such as “Purpose” have beautiful melodies. All of the songs are very well written and are relatable to everyone, not just to his teenybopper fan base.
Bieber was discovered on YouTube at the young age of thirteen and with the help of R&B icon Usher, he was signed to Universal’s Def Jam Records.
Bieber has not had the steadiest career due to his poor behavior, such as the time he peed in a bucket at a club and his constant run-ins with the paparazzi in his late teen years. But that immature kid is gone for good and has turned into a tamer man.
This redemption album is full of upbeat songs that can turn anyone into a “Belieber.” With the release of his catchy singles “What Do You Mean” and “Sorry,” Bieber reached a whole new audience, and both songs are guaranteed to get even the biggest anti- Bieber fans up out of their seats.
“The new album makes you want to sing out loud with friends,” sophomore Kathleen Burpoe said. “There is not one bad song on the album.”
The album is rumored to be inspired by Bieber’s longtime on-again-off-again relationship with actress and singer Selena Gomez. The song “Mark My Words” is the album opener and is a beautiful ballad begging for forgiveness. Bieber is desperately trying to prove to the world and supposedly Gomez that he has changed for the better.
Bieber speaks in the beginning of the song and the music video shows film of all the horrible things he has done in the past. He wants to prove to people he really has grown up and matured both as an artist and a man.
“Love Yourself,” co-written by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, known for his clever lyrics, is about letting go of the one you love and how being selfish in a relationship tends to end in a breakup.
The song features the lyrics such as “My Mama don’t like you and she likes everyone.” These powerful lyrics show that Bieber is not only ready to move on from his past relationship but also to be taken seriously both musically and in his personal life.
“You know, I care about this project so much and I’ve put my heart and soul into it, spent the last three or four years making it,” Bieber said in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight.” “So it’s been exciting, it’s been an amazing rollercoaster ride.”
“Life is Worth Living” is about how great life is and even when a person is living in their darkest hour, life is truly worth living.
“Children” and “Life is Worth Living” are directed towards his younger audience. However, “Children” has a cheerful vibe about teaching the future generations about making a change for the better.
Overall, Bieber has proved to the world that he is all grown up. Growing up in the spotlight definitely came with its disadvantages, but without his downfall, he would never have created this amazing comeback album.
