Iona holds its first transgender remembrance memorial

SLAM and Campus Ministries held Iona’s first Transgender Day of Remembrance memorial on Nov. 20 in order to honor those who were murdered as the result of transphobia. Campus minister Gabriella Colon began with a prayer. SLAM president sophomore Justin Henry then held a moment of silence while a list of names of transgender people who were victims of hate crimes in 2016 was read and a bell was rung. Two students
