If you don’t have a steady hand when painting your nails, your at-home manicure many have just gotten a lot simpler. The United States now has the first ever spray-on nail polish.

A traditional manicure can become a tedious task. In order to get the perfect manicure, you need to prep your nails, apply a base coat, apply nail polish, apply a top coat and allow your nails to dry between each step. Many people just don’t have the time to wait for their nails to dry and end up smudging them as they go about their day.

Nail polish, gel coats and going to a salon can have a significant toll on a college students budget. Perfect nails may not be a priority for some, but for those who like to remain “polished” it has become a whole lot easier.

The UK- based beauty brand, Nails Inc., has created nail polish in a spray can. The product was first introduced back in 2015 in the UK. The “paint can” has been the talk of many nail art fans and beauty gurus since it is now available for sale in US stores and online. Think of it as “graffiti” for your nails.

The company has released six different shades – four different shades of pink, silver and gold. You can even buy gift sets. The only drawback? The base coat is in a traditional nail polish bottle, but it does come as a two-in-one within the formula.

According to YouTube artist, Jaymfs, who posted a review video back in 2015 for the product, the base is designed to prevent the paint from sticking to your hands or skin. The cost of the spray on nail polish is relatively college-student friendly, ranging from $12 to $15 for a 1.3 oz. can.

It’s still a little pricey, but relatively on the inexpensive side for a new product on the U.S. market. To avoid the extra shipping fees, you can visit the nearest Sephora. They are going out of stock quickly online. You may soon see this in your makeup subscription bundles as Birchbox in the UK has picked up the product.

The spray on coat is designed to be a quick way to get an easy manicure. Is it really worth it? The company’s website Q&A section still recommends putting on a top coat to receive at least up to four days of wear for the spray on polish.

It still takes the same amount of time for your nails to dry as with traditional nail polish, but some will argue differently, depending how much you spray on. The spray can also make things a little messy since you’ll probably get paint around the top half of your fingers and on the surface you are working on. To get the nail polish off your hands, Nails Inc. has recommended to just wash your hands with soap and water, but it takes a while for it to scrub off evenly.

The fun part of the spray is that you can be more creative with your nails than you can be with regular nail polish. There’s a helpful tutorial on Nails Inc.’s YouTube channel on how to do an ombré nail. They used two of their colors and it only took about 10 seconds to do.

There have been mixed reviews on the product, however. On the Sephora website, the average rating for the spray can has been 2 out of 5 stars. The can also had the same rating on the UK Birchbox website. Many users criticize how it still lacks the base and the top coat. It is traditional nail polish, but with a messier result.

Those who like to be creative while getting their hands dirty (literally), will enjoy this product. For those who want a quick and neat manicure, this new blossoming trend may not be the one for you.
