Coming back to school for the new semester can sometimes be daunting. For many, winter is not the most enjoyable season because it can be freezing and snowy, taking away the option to enjoy a lot of outdoor activities. Despite the cold weather, you can still find fun things to do, as long as you look out for things that catch your eye. I am one of the few people who enjoys winter, but many of my friends don’t share that same opinion. We love going for walks, but obviously the weather doesn’t really work out in our favor for taking long walks, especially since it’s been less than 30 degrees most days.
With the lack of outdoor activities available to us, we have turned to other options to find fun. Recently, we have started going to the Regal Movie Theatre in downtown New Rochelle . Going to the movies is something that I used to love doing as a kid, but I feel that with the rise of streaming platforms, movie theaters lost out on a lot of customers. D espite streaming platforms, my friends and I think that go ing to the theatre is such a fun activity. We recently saw the new movie starring Timothée Chalamet, A Complete Unknown . Sitting in a recliner seat with some popcorn and an Icee was something that you can’t replicate at home, which is why going to see a movie in person can be a really fun thing to do with friends, even during the weekdays. Another recommendation for a winter activity would be to go support our Iona Gaels at their events. Whether it be a basketball game, swimming or cross country/track events,
they are all indoor events that you can enjoy while staying warm, as well as showing your support for Iona. Even if you don’t necessarily follow the sports or understand them, it can be a fun day out and you might end up finding a new activity to love. My last recommendation for something to do in the winter is adjacent to going to the movie theatre, and it is to start watching a show together with your friends. My friends and I love to watch The Bachelor or The Bachelorette seasons together. I know that those kinds of shows might not be everyone’s favorite type, but sometimes reality T.V. can be so bad that it’s good. The new season of The Bachelor starring Grant Ellis, an Iona Men’s Basketball alum, begins on Monday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. If reality T.V. is something you enjoy, this might be the time to get together with friends and watch Iona’s very own Grant Ellis’ journey to love.
