Following 15 months of war, Israel has allowed tens of thousands of Palestinians to begin returning to northern Gaza after Israel and Hamas completed the first phases of an Egyptian and Qatari-negotiated truce. The United Nations said over 200,000 people were moving north on the morning of April 27. 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been displaced, with an estimated 47,000 Palestinian civilians killed and 1,200 Israelis killed. President Trump has called for Jordan and Egypt to receive more Palestinians from Gaza and to “clear out” the Gaza Strip, referring to Gaza as a “demolition site”.
