After starting their season 2-10, the Gaels have seemingly turned everything around. Since starting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Sept. 28, the team has gone 4-5, which is below a .500 winning percentage but still a vast improvement over non-conference play this season.
That team would continue improving, going 2-3 over five of their last nine regular season games.
On Oct. 26, the Gaels would travel to Lawrenceville, New Jersey, to take on the Rider Broncs on the road. Iona would get swept by the Broncs, losing 3-0. No Gael had above six and a half points, while four players on Rider’s team would have above that number.
The day after that, the Gaels would play the St. Peter’s Peacocks in Jersey City, New Jersey. The game would be a back-and-forth affair, going down to the fifth and final set, which is only the third time this has happened in an Iona volleyball game this season. Luckily for the Gaels, they were on the right side of the final set, winning the game 3-2. Outside hitter Kenzie Wiggins led all Gaels with 17.5 points while fellow outside hitter Mija Jegers led all players with 23 kills. On Oct. 30, the Gaels would play the rival Manhattan Jaspers in their first home game in over a week. Much like their other game against Manhattan on Oct. 2, the matchup would see the Gaels win another game, this time 3-1 compared to the sweep on Oct. 2.
Like most games for Iona, Wiggins led all Gaels in points, this time with 14.5 points. There were also four other Gaels who had above eight points. Defensive specialist Avery Gaume would lead all players with 15 digs.
The next two games were another back-to-back road trip, the last of the season for the Gaels. On Nov. 2, the Gaels would take on the Niagara Purple Eagles. The game would see the Gaels once again get swept, losing 3-0. The Gaels performed well, despite the sweep, only losing their sets by a margin of eight points. Jegers and right-side hitter Grace Ehler would both score above 10 points, with Jegers leading the Gaels with 16 digs.
the Gaels would take on the Canisius Griffins. The Gaels would once again lose, 3-1. The next few games see the Gaels finish up their regular season at the Hynes Athletic Center. The Gaels host the Peacocks and Broncs on Nov. 9 and 10, respectively. Then, the following weekend, the Gaels host the Quinnipiac Bobcats and Merrimack Warriors, the latter being the team’s “Senior Game.” The next day, the Gaels
