#1 – Apple Picking
Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm is located in Yorktown Heights just forty minutes from Iona’s New Rochelle Campus. This farm offers numerous activities including pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, a corn maze, a bakery, and a farm store. This orchard is perfect for a week or weekend trip as it is open to the public Wednesday through Monday with only Tuesday excluded. The farm staff recommends that to get the best pick of the season you visit sooner rather than later as most apples are ripe and ready to pick the third week of October!
#2 – The Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley
This incredible evening pumpkin walk-through exhibit is the perfect way to get in the fall spirit with enchanting music, lights and jack lantern artwork. Located in Van Cortlandt Manor New York, the pumpkin blaze is the perfect activity for all ages. This event lasts until November 17th and sightseers are advised to purchase tickets online prior to their intended date. This immersive activity is also a great way to support local artisans’ carving work. People Magazine sums up the escapade perfectly, “this experience defies all expectations.”
#3 – Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Tour
Do you want to learn more about The Legend of Sleepy Hollow? This interactive experience is the perfect way! During the fall months, the Sleepy Hollow cemetery offers a variety of tours to get people in the Halloween spirit. The different walk-through tours offered include a Daytime Guided Tour, Evening Lantern Tour, Murders & Mayhem and The Good, the Bad, and the Unusual! which are all broken up according to the scare level. The Daytime Tour is perfect for all ages while the Murders and Mayhem tour is only available to participants 18 years or older. Tickets for each of these tours are sold online and range from around $50-$60 each. Be sure to get tickets soon as these tours are only happening until Nov. 30!
#4 – Bronxville Farmer’s Market.
Although not specifically a fall activity, The Bronxville Farmer’s Market is the perfect Saturday morning place to visit. This outdoor market is located in Bronxville, New York, and is happening until Nov. 24. It occurs every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and is especially special in the autumn months because of the variety of produce available that is specific to this time of year. Farmers from all over Hudson sell their fresh produce and other goods such as jams, apple cider, donuts, and more! Additionally, the Bronxville Farmer’s Market highlights over thirty small businesses each week selling a variety of items. Therefore, whether you want to grab coffee, flowers, or snacks this market is a convenient way to support local shops.
