The sisters of Gamma Lambda Rho held a flag sale on Monday, Nov. 4, with all the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. Students at Iona had the opportunity to purchase a flag for $1, and raise money for U.S. Veterans.
The Wounded Warrior Project was founded in 2003 as an nonprofit organization that would provide care & comfort items to the hospital bedsides of wounded service members.
Over the last two decades, the organization has grown and gained national recognition, which has allowed the org. to start other programs for soldiers such as mental health, career counseling & long-term rehabilitative care.“The Wounded Warrior Project actually helped my grandpa who was injured in combat. It feels great to have a close personal connection with the organizations that we do fundraisers for”, says Bridget Murphy, member of Gamma.
“As an organization we all love supporting any organization that allows us as students to give back. One way we show
his is if a sister has a personal connection or reason for any organization, we will try and do a fundraiser or an event regarding this cause.” Almost every week at Iona, students will find multiple events and fundraisers going on that they can either be a part of or support.
