Avenue Deli has been one of my favorite places off-campus to go to these past four years. First going my first week of freshman year, I have continued to frequent there because I loved how kind the staff was and how delicious the food was that they made. You always can count on Mike and the deli to take good care of you.
Their menu is loaded with so many options starting from breakfast sandwiches to buffet food, all the way to burgers and fries. There is no doubt that you will find something for you that you like. For those with food allergies, Avenue offers gluten-free options to ensure you are able to experience all the good foods they have to offer.
One of my go-to breakfast sandwiches is a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with hashbrowns. Although it’s simple, it tastes so good and fills me up.
For those who love lunch and sandwiches in particular, there are so many classic Italian combos as well as specialty sandwiches. My first two years at Iona, I used to always get the #2, which had grilled chicken, bacon, melted cheddar cheese, and mayo. However, my friend recently put me onto a chicken cutlet on a roll with lettuce, hot sauce, cucumbers, and ranch dressing. This has become my new favorite sandwich, and it never fails me.
For those who aren’t looking for sandwiches or breakfast rolls, the Ave also offers a buffet section that has things such as sesame chicken, pancakes, French toast, empanadas, and even a selection of pastas.
Desserts such as muffins, brownies, cookies and even Danishes are even provided as an option before checking out. There truly is something for everyone no matter what you are looking for.
I also think that the Ave is very generous with the portions they give you for your meals, so I find myself having leftovers a lot of the time.
The Avenue is a great option to have because it is on our meal plan, and there is such a variety of foods to choose from. It is truly one of my friends and my favorite places to eat and is something that I am going to miss when I graduate. There is no other off-campus food option better than the Ave.
For Iona students, I would strongly recommend you give the Avenue a try if you haven’t already, you won’t be disappointed.
