Iona students lined up outside of  Mulcahy Gym to see Mariah the Scientist perform at Iona’s Spring Weekend Concert Saturday night.

The student artists that opened for Mariah were Donadino Antoine and Leah Figueroa, The Splits and Krisna Rivera.

Antonie and Figueroa started with two original songs and followed with a cover of “Lovebug” by the Jonas Brothers. The Splits accompanied them on stage and performed multiple covers. Rivera then performed with everyone else. She sang “Pink + White” by Frank Ocean and “Kill Bill” by SZA. The crowd sang along and cheered when they were all finished.

The crowd cheered when Mariah came on stage. Mariah sang her hit songs “Spread Thin”, “Only Human” and “Always n Forever”. Throughout the show, she talked to her fans and jumped off stage to hug her fans. Multiple fans gave her their phones and she took videos and photos for them.

When Mariah was done performing and left the stage, fans rushed to the exit for the opportunity to take more pictures with her. She spent some time talking to fans quickly before leaving the gym. As security opened the exit, groups of students all sang Mariah songs as they walked out.

“It was a very good experience, and it was nice to see Iona students participating in on campus events” freshman Julio Perez said.
