Restaurant reviews: Italian cuisine with an American twist at Gemelli’s Pizzeria
February 13, 2023
Nothing says New Rochelle pizza like Gemelli’s Pizzeria, arguably the most iconic pizzeria amongst the Iona community. Located at 752 North Avenue, Gemelli’s is a go-to place for many students looking for a good quality lunch or dinner. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. till 10 p.m. every day of the week, except Sunday when they open at noon and close at 9 p.m.
I’ve been going to Gemelli’s for years and have enjoyed everything I’ve eaten at the establishment. They serve a multitude of different types of appetizers such as: mozzarella sticks, chicken meatballs, fried or grilled calamari and mini rice balls., Mini rice balls are Sicilian–style arancini made with arborio rice, coated with breadcrumbs and served with a spicy vodka dipping sauce; they are very delicious, and I recommend them to both those who’ve never had rice balls or who likes rice balls. They have so many other appetizers to choose from, and I recommend you give them all a try sometime.
The pizza served at Gemelli’s is definitely a standout item on their menu. They have all types of specialty slices, such as the chicken bacon ranch slice, the buffalo chicken slice, the white pizza slice, the margherita slice and much more. There are so many options for pizza slices that it can be a bit overwhelming at times, but my go–to option is their buffalo chicken slice— it has delicious, spicy chicken, ranch dressing and celery, which is a combination made in heaven. I would recommend it to all who enjoy spicy pizza.
The restaurant also serves soups and salads such as the chicken meatball and escarole soup, chicken noodle soup, and many more. The salads are very refreshing and add a flavorful addition to their menu. My favorite salad on their menu is the “Bocconcini Salad,” which consists of “fresh mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes, olives, celery, basil and extra virgin olive oil.” The salad is jam–packed with flavor from all its ingredients and the fresh mozzarella is a welcome addition to the salad, pairing well with the olive oil and olives. This salad is worth a trip to Gemelli’s.
The restaurant also offers “DIY” burgers, which are burgers you can order to your liking. There is a plethora of options for cheese, toppings and sauces to accommodate the burger all at your preferred temperature.
If you’re a pasta lover like me, luckily Gemelli’s has you covered with their wide variety of pastas, including, Penne Alla Vodka, Cavatelli Bolognese, Rigatoni Porcini and much more.
Gemelli’s also offers desserts such as brownies, cookies, etc., but my personal favorite dessert they serve is the serving of zeppoles, which are filled with Nutella or Oreo and covered with powdered sugar. They are delicious to say the least.
Gemelli’s is an affordable restaurant for students, and they even accept Iona meal plan cards. If you need a spot to use your meal plan, Gemelli’s is the way to go. This restaurant’s rating is a 4/5.
