As part of National Coming Out Week, the Office of Residential Life once again held Bingo night, hosted this year by RuPaul’s Drag Race Star Roxxy Andrews on Oct. 13.

This yearly tradition always brings together the LGBTQIA+ community and allies for a fun night of treats and prizes. This year, the Endzone was jam packed with bingo cards running out before the event began. However, that did not stop students from coming with everyone moving to make room for others. As students entered the room, they could pick up chips, pretzels, candy, pride flags and stickers. Bingo started around 9:20 with Gaels waiting patiently for Roxxy to get ready. As she appeared, the EndZone roared with cheers. Food vouchers were given as bingo prizes with a polaroid camera being raffled.

Ellie Hankla, a sophomore and vice president of the Queer-Straight Alliance shared her thoughts on the importance of Iona hosting events such as these.

“I really like that Res Life has been able to put on these events,” Hankla said. “It’s really great way to show support and feel appreciated and seen on campus and for campus to feel like a place I can be out in.”

Roxxy answered questions from the audience between rounds of bingo. One student asked her what her favorite singer is, which she answered Beyonce. Another asked what her favorite lipstick was, which is a red shade from Fenty Beauty.

Eventually, after more bingo cards were printed out and chairs were brought in, there were more than 12 rounds of bingo with happy students receiving their prizes. One winner was Klover Phillips, a junior and RA, who was at a loss for words.

“I knew this was going to happen, I premeditated this, though I don’t know what is going on” Phillips said.

Music played as students chatted, taking a much-needed break after preparing for midterms. The night concluded with Gaels forming a line to take a picture with Roxxy.
