When the cast list for Olivia Wilde’s, “Don’t Worry Darling” was announced, the public was thrilled for it to finally be released. With Harry Styles and Florence Pugh taking the main roles, the movie was bound to cause commotion throughout the media. When the movie finally hit the theaters this past week, many mixed reviews came out from the public, as well as fans of Wilde’s previous work.
Harry Styles is one of the most popular music artists today. With a small role in Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” (2017), fans were ecstatic to see him take on a lead role in this film. But how did the public take this news? There was a variety of differing opinions, with many saying Styles was half as bad at acting as they assumed him to be. Others think he only got his role in the movie due to his relationship with the director and actor, Olivia Wilde.
There was a lot of drama surrounding the cast of “Don’t Worry Darling” prior to the release. The movie started filming in October of 2020, and in that time Harry Styles ended up in a romantic relationship with the director of the film, Olivia Wilde. Pictures of the couple came out in January of 2021 at Styles’ manager’s wedding which caused an uproar among Styles’ fans and gave the public a bad taste in their mouths of why he was cast as the lead role.
The movie itself is a psychological thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It starts off with Styles playing Jack Chambers and Pugh playing his wife, Alice. They have the type of marriage everybody dreams of when they grow up. Jack goes to work while Alice stays home to cook, clean, and have drinks by the pool with the other wives of the Victory Project. But what is happening behind the scenes of the Victory Project?
“Don’t Worry Darling” is a story of love and betrayal. The theme of the story is that everyone’s “dream” life is not what it seems. Anybody who seems to have it all has a dark past who will do anything to reach that sense of perfection, even if that means bringing down those who love them in the process. It is an amazing movie with a lot of twists and turns that keep the viewer roped into the world of the Victory Project from start to finish.
