Season 1 of The Mandalorian wowed audiences with its live-action look into the Star Wars expanded universe last year with many fans agreeing that it was one of the best things to happen to the franchise since Disney bought it in 2012. With Season 2 premiering on Disney+, The Mandalorian promises to continue the exciting story of the intergalactic bounty hunter.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian picks up where the first season left off with Mando (Pedro Pascal) starting his mission to return The Child to his species. Given the time spent with the two characters in season 1, this premise is immediately engaging and has large amounts of potential growth for both characters. Just like in the first season, The Mandalorian keeps its strong scriptwriting and  Pascal excellently showcases Mando’s serious and mysterious mannerisms. Other members of the cast further help bring the Stars Wars universe to life with their performances as well.

The first episode of this new season treads familiar ground with the characters returning to the desert planet Tatooine while also introducing new characters that give new insight into Star Wars lore. Just like in the last season, The Mandalorian impressively draws from years of Star Wars films to help tell its unique narrative.  While non-Star Wars fans may not fully understand each reference or the weight of certain details as a whole, the strength of the characters and their plots are engaging enough that even audiences who aren’t Star Wars veterans can enjoy the series.

There is an incredibly noticeable increase in budget for The Mandalorian’s second season with the CGI and special effects being much more dynamic and impressive. While the CGI was well done in the first season, it was much more tamely used when compared to the films. The first episode of season 2 goes beyond what season 1 did and ups the spectacle with a large scale battle between a giant sand dragon across a desert mountainside. The action and fight choreography are much more dynamic as well with the cinematography making use of more sweeping shots and camera angles.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian looks to be just as exciting for audiences as the first one was. Star Wars fans will have plenty to look forward to as this new season continues.
