Iona learns of death of sophomore William Falk

On Sunday, Sept. 23, the Iona community learned of the death of sophomore William Falk. Falk, 20, of New Hampshire, was a resident student in South Hall and a member of the crew team.

“The entire program is deeply saddened by this tragic event,” said head coach of the Iona Rowing team, Thomas Scifres. “William was a great friend and teammate and well liked by everyone who knew him. We will all miss William deeply and our heartfelt condolences to his family.”

Many members of the crew team and the Iona student body have taken to social media to express their sadness over the loss of a dear friend and teammate.

Iona College President Joseph E. Nyre said in a press release this morning, “Our prayers and sympathies are with William’s family and loved ones.”

The school is holding a community prayer service at 4 p.m. today in the Arrigoni Center, and students are encouraged to attend counseling center services as listed below.

 

Monday, Sept. 24:

2nd Floor Loftus Study Lounge immediately following the Prayer Service at 4pm McGrath Room on the second floor of LaPenta 12pm – 3:30 pm and from 5- 6:30pm

First Floor Study Lounge of South Hall from 12pm-4pm
