Glitter makes a sparkling comeback this spring

We have seen many makeup trends come and go throughout the years. Specifically, glitter came back in a big way in 2017 with eye shadows and highlighters. We’ve also seen many different forms of glitter being used for makeup, such as in metallic makeup palettes and liquid lipstick.

The best part about glitter becoming popular again is you can glam up your look or use it more casually. But we’ve also seen the matte makeup look dominate the runway for a while now. So is matte feeling up to the competition?

With the matte look possibly moving on, there has been an increase in a more dewy foundation look instead of a matte finish. Tarte’s Shape Tape Foundation includes a formula that combines both of these aspects. If you love their Shape Tape Concealer, this product may be for you. Even though there was much backlash behind this launch — regarding their lack of options for darker skin tones–, the foundations come in both matte and hydrating formulas. Matte can be used for those who have oily skin, while the hydrating formula can be used for those who have a drier skin type.

With this balancing act playing out between a dewy and matte look, there is no wonder glitter has made its way back into the hearts of the beauty world. Want to incorporate a little sparkle into your look this spring? Here are a few ways to achieve that perfect look.

Lip Gloss

If you want something that’s subtle but is still enough to spice up your look, wear some glitter lip gloss! Many makeup companies have brought back lip glosses, being sure to include some sparkle into the formulas. Depending on the brand, these lip glosses can range anywhere from $9-$20. If you want even more glitter on your lips, you can buy a base coat and special glitter to place on your lips, like Make Up For Ever’s glitter packages that comes in many festive colors.

Eyes

The eyes are the area of the face where glitter is most used. There are classic glitter eye shadow palettes—as well as palettes such as Kat Von D’s metallic eye shadows—which brings another side to glitter application.

Metallics are another makeup trend that has been growing throughout the years. You can either grab a metallic palette or use the same individual glitter packages that you used for your lips. If you don’t want to cover your whole eyelid with glitter, you can use some glitter eyeliner. The glitter eyeliner can be used on your upper and lower lash line. Wearing it along your bottom lash line can help scatter the glitter down to your cheeks. Remember that sometimes, less is more!

Body

Glitter can also be used on the body. Rihanna’s new Fenty Beauty Glittering Pom Pom can help you achieve shimmer all throughout your body. You can wear it as a body shimmer or a highlighter on your cheekbone or collar bone. Or you can also buy body glitter, which they sell at crafts stores. This is a perfect look for the warmer temperatures coming up!

Need an occasion to wear some extra sparkle? With many graduations and other ceremonies coming up, these options can be a great excuse to glamorize your look! If you are the graduate, congratulations! A little sparkle will catch the stage lights perfectly as you walk across the stage.

With the warmer night among us, a glitter look can also be perfect for your night out. We also can’t forget about music festival season! These festivals are the epitome of glitter central! We have seen glitter used everywhere in these festivals. You may not be able to attend Coachella, but you can always partake in the style and fashion! The Instagram photos will be worth it. With these shimmers of light, you can really ramp up your look for the spring and summer weather.
