Changing your closet, activities for autumn season

Are you having trouble with what to wear with the weather changes lately? Constantly checking your weather app to help you decide on an outfit? We can all agree that the weather patterns have not been consistent for the last couple of years when we change from season to season. Unfortunately no one knows exactly what the forecast is for the next couple of days, let alone for the next month. That said, there are several ways we can prepare for the change from summer to fall.

It is common sense that we are rolling into the fall and toward the cold winter, so stores will start displaying all of the gear you need for the chilly air. That means lots of sales! As a customer, this is where you can make your golden purchases, as it’s the right time to get what you want for a lower price.

Watch for stores having flash sales or discounts on the incoming fall merchandise. Don’t wait to shop, because stores will sell out of the size you need and waiting could cause you to spend more money than you originally wanted.

Having trouble deciding what clothes to pick? When you try to shop, think of the main categories, such as shoes, pants, coats and long-sleeve shirts. You might be interested in a new pair of comfy sweatpants or joggers that will keep your legs warm and still look good. Jeans are another top choice, since the material is thick enough to wear when it’s 20 degrees out. Sweaters and long-sleeves are some fashionable options too! Keep an eye out for those staples that really pull together an outfit.

Your feet also need to stay warm when you go out in the cold. Cute boots with fuzzy socks are a great style and keep you toasty! If you don’t like wearing full socks with your boots or they make the lower part of your legs sweat, there are also accessories that just show the boot cuff, without the rest of the sock. If you feel those would be better for you, no one will know the difference. For men, a thick sock and boot can’t hurt when thinking about looking professional. A short Chelsea boot is also a great option for men in the colder months.

Not many people start thinking about the dead of winter when fall is just beginning, but you should be mindful of the harsh cold that will be creeping up on all of us! In knowing this, looking for a heavy coat is a smart idea. If you have one from last year, make sure to try it on and see if it still fits you correctly. A warm and fashionable coat is a must when it starts snowing and you have work or class to attend. Purchasing a fitted jacket for the fall will help when you want to stay warm from walking outside, but you don’t want to deal with a bulky coat when you go inside.

Gloves or mittens are a protective way to avoid getting dry or cracked skin on your hands. Buying some hand lotion and staying hydrated is essential! Dry skin can happen to anyone in the low temperatures on wintery days, so try to stay prepared. Drinking water is another must because the cold air can dry out your sinuses in your cheekbones. A scarf, beanie or stylish hat can be a statement look to add to your outfit and to keep yourself cozy.

Be smart and careful when going out in the late afternoon, because it’s the time of year where it gets chilly and dark very quickly. Bring a flashlight in your bag or attach one on your keychain in case your phone dies. Rushing out of your home after showering is a big mistake as well. Try to plan time to dry your hair before leaving, so your hair doesn’t freeze up while you are outside. Not only can you get sick, but it’s bad for your skin and hair as well! Finally, you should always try to leave home with some type of jacket as we approach the upcoming weeks.

Some people’s moods might be affected by the dreary cold. Try to stay positive and get ready for the holidays that are on the way! Halloween is around the corner and Thanksgiving will follow right after. Decorating your room or your car with seasonal items such as scented soaps or fall leaf decorations can cheer up your mood! To save money, try going to your local dollar store.

Restaurants will start to put pumpkin flavored coffees and apple cider donuts on their menus. Treats that are introduced for just this season can be exciting and fun to try! Finally, if you need a break from school, try to plan some activities with friends such as apple and pumpkin picking, carving pumpkins, attending festivals or ice skating.

Unfortunately the cold weather is inevitable, so make sure to take advantage of the brief reprieve fall gives us before the winter months set in!
